Phil specializes in helping clients with their data; he either takes a proactive approach to ensure an understanding of data lifecycles for compliance, efficiency, and growth or a reactive approach to deal with new regulatory standards, investigations or litigation. These efforts require both legal knowledge of an everchanging landscape and technical expertise to delve deeply into his client’s data and infrastructure to gain insight and understanding.
Prior to joining Kroll, Phil served as a director at AlixPartners in their New York office, where he advised clients on complex investigations, litigations and compliance matters to ensure projects were properly scoped, managed and executed. In between his two stints at AlixPartners, Phil helped to grow his family’s law practice in Maine by streamlining internal customer relationship management and production workflows, systematizing a measurable goal structure and improving marketing pipelines.
Phil has significant experience leading clients through a variety of investigation, discovery and privacy matters, including cross-border data transfers, multi-jurisdiction regulatory requests, C-suite investigations, data privacy regulation readiness analysis and blockchain transaction tracing. He has overseen several internal investigations for clients in the global banking sector, involving the assessment and collection of data from dozens of countries, working with data privacy authorities to ensure proper processing procedures were in place for data transfer. He has also led several cross-disciplinary teams, including discovery, data analytics and visualization, forensic accounting and industry specialists to meet the exacting reporting demands of U.S. regulators. In recent years, Phil has focused his efforts on data privacy, helping to assess and build privacy programs to stay ahead of evolving regulations. Earlier in his career, he was an attorney at Greenberg Traurig, where he assisted on large-scale litigations for a multinational bank.
Phil received a B.A. in government and philosophy from Skidmore College and a law degree from the University of Maine School of Law. He is a member of the New York State Bar and a Certified International Privacy Professional for the U.S. Private Sector (CIPP/US).
